This is a huge thank you to all members of the club who helped make the Pleasant Grove Strawberry Days 5k happen this year. We had a new crew running the race this year and they did great—many people really stepped up including Phil Olsen, Jodi Blackburn and her family, Bruce Miller, Kelly Transfield, Howlett’s (Glen, Carol, and Wade), Hatch’s, John & Marcie Bozung, John Harmon, and Heidi Carrick. Thanks to the sponsors as well for their support—Bank of American Fork, Anytime Fitness, Runner’s Corner, Hart’s, Timp Chiropractic, Kneader’s, and Smith’s.
Congratulations are also in order for racing team members: Lisa Pratt won the Strawberry Days race and Golden Harper (2nd overall) and Chuck Carrick for their performances at the grueling Wahsatch Steeplechase mountain climb and descent. Props once again to the Runner’s Corner Wasatch Back Squad who had many Sojourner members and even borrowed some fashion tips!
This year’s Wasatch Back Relay has come and gone. Runner’s Corner fielded another strong team, winning the mixed division once again, even though there were only four returning runners from last year’s 3rd place overall team. They also held their own taking 5th place overall, behind teams with runners from Weber State, BYU and SUU (all men’s teams!). Joining Danny Moody, Devra Vierkant, Heidi Houle and Mike Vick this year were Amber Andrews, Darcy Gribble, Samantha McMillan, Mary Nothum, Derick Moody, Joe Bendoski, Ryan Gurr and Tyson Andrews. The field at the race was bigger and better than ever. Through out the race Runner’s Corner battled it out with the 26.2 all men’s team, many of which run for SUU, only to lose a tough our-girl-versus-their-guy battle in the last exchange of the race. But a good time was had by all over the 19 hours and 25 minutes it took to complete the race. It still makes you wonder why anyone would do something like this again. We would like to congratulate everyone who participated in this year’s event. Great job!
Bruce Miller and Hawk at the pots with more of the group basking in the warm water
Well, the Diamond Fork run was eventful as it usually is. We had a few people go on the longest run of their lives…and discover it really isn’t that bad, especially with a good group of people. Right around 30 people showed up for this morning’s run, which was great. The initial climb seemed shorter than remembered, the “gentle rolling hills” on the road were just as tough as legends had them, and the descent to the hot pots was great. Interesting fact this year: No naked people in the hot pots when we got there. A few of us soaked in the sulfur heaven for nearly an hour while others dipped in and out. The run was as beautiful as ever, and there were no cows with diarrhea this year! Good fun was had by all and the refreshments at the end were stellar—especially all the chocolate milk and soy milk. Just Added: Picture Gallery
We procrastinated getting jerseys for our Wasatch Back team and a few members of the team have resulted to trying on anything and everything available. Hopefully they can come to a reasonable solution!
Due to conflicting interest in Summer Saturday run times, we are now taking votes. Whatever the club wants, the club gets, so vote away—the majority rules!

This year’s Wasatch Back relay team is looking even stronger than last year’s mixed division winning team with impressive performances over the last couple of weeks. Devra Vierkant ran a blistering 16:22 at the Magna 5k on May 26th. This last weekend newcomers to the team, Derick Moody and Ayisha Mitchell won their respective races at the Fleet Feet 5k, running times of 16:20 and 17:12. Same weekend, different race: Mike Vike, Golden Harper and Danny Moody placed 2-4 on the men’s side and Krystal Harper won the the women’s overall at the Nestle Art City Days 5k. Mike Vike threw down an impressive time of 15:08 to come two seconds short of a victory. With results like these and Wasatch Back only a couple of weeks away, things are looking up for the Runner’s Corner racing team.
The third toughest 50 miler in the country was run yesterday in the Mountains between Provo Canyon & Hobble Creek. Brian Beckstead finished 5th overall among national-class competition and sponsored athletes. The Runner’s Corner Ultra Team had 4 finishers in the top 30 with Brian and Dave Hunt (11th) both having fantastic races running close at 9:13 and 9:48. Rodger Smith and Marc Sanderson were close as well, running 10:34 and 10:38 respectively. Way to go guys! Congratulations to our friends who finished the race well including Joe Martel, Tommy Schlosser, Trace Lund, and Marci & Richard Lamoreaux. If you are a member of the club and finished the race, please post a comment below and let us know how it went!
Update: Photodocumentary of the second half of the race available here.
