Orem International Thanksgiving Day Race Recap
Amber Andrews tearing up the jungle in Puerto Rico
The Thanksgiving Race is now over! We had a record number of runners (well over 1,000) and are grateful to everyone who both ran and participated in this years race. We are looking for ways to adjust to having so many runners and should be able to correct a few hangups and make the race next year even better than ever. Big thanks to all Sojourner members who came through big on putting this race together—from packet pickup to starting the race to the refreshment table and on and on…
Random notes: The high race day registration fee reduced race day problems effectively. There were nearly 1100 runners, the biggest ever-plenty of people earned their eating rights for the day! 172 turkeys were given away. It was nice to see former Olympian and BYU coach Ed Eyestone actually running (1st in his age division) and his daughter Andrea (2nd in 15-18) participate.
Also, many of the Sojourners who ran the race dominated! Congratulations to Amber Andrews for her 1st place performance in the women’s race.
In fact, Sojourner women took all of the top 5 places, Way to go ladies!:
1. Amber Andrews 2. Danielle Menlove 3. Julie Meads 4. Mary Ann Schauerhamer 5. Jamie Graver.
Other notable performances:
Karin Rowley (1st in 60-64 division); Danny Moody (4th overall in the Men’s race); Leroy Transfield (1st in Men’s 40-44 division); Brian Tjeerdsma (3rd in 45-49); Russ Armstrong, Jay Henrie, and Roger Farley (1st, 2nd and 4th in 55-59); LeEarl Healey (1st in 65-69), and Gaylon Jorgensen (an original Sojourner-1st in 75 and over). If you are a club member and had a performance we missed, PLEASE let us know so we can put it up here. Complete Results Here.
